A paperweight is one of the first things you make in an introduction to glassblowing class. It’s a great opportunity to get a feel for how glass moves and a rather mesmerizing taste of what happens when you add color to clear.

And if you’re up for a break from worry about shape, it’s also a great opportunity to try out some “new” color combinations and spend some time with old favorites.

inspiration spring?

For the heart of winter here in Maryland, we’ve had quite a few unseasonably warm days over the past few weeks. I’ll refrain from commentary on that regard and just blame the sunny, spring-like days for my recent urge to work in bright pastels.

These transpired over two different sessions at the glassblowing studio.

The application of a second shade of blue adds more to the texture than the color on this one, but I like the way the dots give way to swirl.

I was in Durham, N.C., earlier this month for a scooter rally. Had a great time and took lots of pictures; this is one of my favorites.

The forecasted rain never materialized today. I managed to get nearly four miles of city walking in instead. It’s been awhile since I’ve experienced our nation’s capital by night.
